BROCKTON —
Mayoral
candidate and City Councilor Linda Balzotti
was asked for her five biggest
accomplishments:
1.
“Driving
force behind” the Grove Street solar field,
which turned a blighted brownfield property
into “one of the largest solar fields in New
England ... I believe this is one of the
city’s greatest accomplishments in recent
years.”
2.
Revised city
ordinance to reduce false alarms. It
“dramatically cut down on nuisance alarms”
and held “business and homeowners
financially responsible for repeated false
alarms, which sap the Police Department of
time and manpower.”
3.
Built a
coalition of East Bridgewater and Brockton
residents to successfully oppose the
rezoning of property that would have led to
the reopening of the East Bridgewater
landfill, which could have had devastating
effects on the health and welfare of
Brockton and East Bridgewater residents.
4.
“As a Ward 4
councilor, I was successful in getting 24
streets repaved” and served as the
“constituents’ advocate” during the repair
process. “And with tight resources, this
shows my ability to successfully lobby for
my constituents to get things done.”
5.
Spearheaded
five-year effort to install traffic signals
at the intersection of Sargent’s Way and
Main Street on the south side of the city, a
“complex” project because Main Street there
is a state road (Route 28). It required
attention to funding challenges and
coordinating city, state, business and
neighborhood groups. “I believe this project
is an example of my commitment to
residents.”
